What is the difference between Plenum and Non-Plenum? Plenum or Non-Plenum
wire refers to the outside insulation used on the wire. Non-Plenum wire uses a
standard PVC plastic for the insulation; plenum wire has special plastic
insulation around it which, in case of a fire, has special nontoxic fume
characteristics. Plenum wire typically is double the cost of non-plenum wire.
Safety considerations, as well as building and fire codes, will determine the
use of plenum or non-plenum wire. What is direct burial wire? Direct
burial cable is made of special UV and weather-resistant material that will
withstand years of above and underground outdoor exposure. In general, a direct
burial cable is one in which the electrical and mechanical characteristics of
the cable will not substantially degrade over time once the cable has been
installed. It is assumed that these cables will be in moist environments. |
